Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Rinse Filter

Rinse your Kalita Wave filter thoroughly. The flat-bed design makes rinsing especially important for even saturation.

Step 2: Bloom

Pour 40g water over 20g grounds. Wait 45 seconds. The flat bed means grounds saturate more evenly than a cone dripper.

Step 3: Pour in Circles

Pour in slow circular motions from center outward. Three small drainage holes slow the flow — keep pours gentle and consistent. Target 300g total by 3:30.

Equipment Needed

Common Issues & Fixes

Slow drain (over 5 min): Filter may be clogged. Use a coarser grind or lighter pour pressure.

Uneven extraction: The flat bed is self-leveling — if you're getting uneven results, your grind consistency is the issue.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Kalita Wave easier than V60?

Yes. The three small holes restrict flow, making it far more forgiving of inconsistent pour technique than the V60's single open hole.
